Sport Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit/Extended Diploma at Redbridge College

Course description

On this practical and popular advanced level course you will study all aspects of sporting performance. You’ll cover in-depth aspects of sporting performance including the athlete’s lifestyle, biomechanics, practical coaching, sports science and sports psychology. The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport is equivalent to three A-Levels.

Course content

Units you will study include:

  • Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport
  • The physiology of fitness
  • Fitness training and programming
  • Fitness testing for sport and exercise
  • Sports nutrition
  • Psychology for sport performance
  • Technical and tactical skills in sport
  • The athlete's lifestyle

Functional Skills: 16 - 18: You will also study English, maths and ICT to support your main course 19+: You may study one of the functional skills if appropriate

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved five GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English and maths, or equivalent e.g. BTEC Level 2 Diploma Merit or above.


You'll be taught by our highly skilled team of Sports Studies lecturers through a mixture of practical sessions and theory work. Assessment takes place throughout the course through assignments, external assessments and project work, with some practical assessments of coaching.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to further enhance your skills and knowledge by progressing onto higher education or employment.
