Course description

Have you ever wondered how the music you love to listen to is created? The processes that take place behind the scenes are varied, from capturing audio to creating original, computer based music. On this course you will explore a variety of techniques used by the music industry to produce the polished hits your favourite musicians release. As well as working on the technical aspects of creating music, you’ll also work towards a nationally recognised qualification in Music Theory. Key topics include:

- Music production

- Audio capture

- Sequencing

- Synthesis

- Music theory

Course content

The College is home to professional grade music facilities, including state of the art recording and mixing studios. Our expert staff will guide and support you as you develop a range of technical skills that will allow you to progress into a career in music technology. You’ll have the opportunity to work on solo projects, and group performances, and throughout the course you will benefit from the use of our industry standard software to produce digital music, CDs and compositions.

Future opportunities

Students can study Music Technology as part of a mixed programme alongside two other subjects, or opt to study the course alongside our BTEC in Performing Arts, turning it into a full time course. This course combination is perfect for those hoping to access a career in Music as an employee, apprentice or undergraduate student.
