Wood Occupations Apprenticeship Level 2 at Accrington and Rossendale College

Course description

The candidates will work on-site along side professionals acquiring skills and experience from their mentors.

The learners will be in employment four days per week building a portfolio for NVQ Level 2 and will attend College one day a week and block release to study towards:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery
  • Employment Rights and ‚Ä®Responsibilities
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths.

To achieve Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery the learner must complete five units in total.

Course content

Units include:

  • Conform to efficient working practices
  • Conform to general workplace safety
  • Move and handle resources
  • Set up and use circular saw.

Entry requirements

Employment in Carpentry & Joinery with a company that undertakes the type of work that allows candidates to be assessed in the working environment.


Students will undertake assessments both in the work place as well as at college they will collect evidence to be submitted in a portfolio.

Progression onto HNC programme moving forward to our professional route.
