Course description

A2 Drama & Theatre Studies:

Unit 3 – Exploration of Dramatic Performance

Your group will work on a devised performance lasting 15 to 30 minutes in groups of up to 6 people. The play can be based on an existing published play or can be devised from scratch using a stimuli of the teachers choice. You are required to complete a working notebook of to 3500 words detailing your intentions and involvement.

Unit 4 – Theatre Text in Context

Sections A and B: You are required to make a detailed study of a set text in an academic and practical way. Lysistrata is our text of choice and you will approach the work as a director creating a full blown concept for an imaginary professional performance of the play.

Section C: We study a period of theatre history looking at staging and acting conventions. You will see a live performance of a play from the Elizabethan era and complete an evaluation comparing conditions with the original in a written exam.

Assessment

Unit 3: Teacher assessment is made of the rehearsal and planning period as well as the actual performance. This makes up 40% of A2. The written evaluation makes up 60% of A2.

Unit 4: A written exam paper is conducted in June. This makes up 40% of A2.
