English Language AS/A Level at Godalming College
This course aims to encourage you to develop your interest and enjoyment in the use of English through learning about its structures and functions and applying this knowledge to a variety of texts. In the first year you will learn to categorise and comment on passages of spoken and written English, and to create texts for different audiences, purposes and contexts, commenting on the language choices that you have made.
The second year develops your understanding of key concepts and theories in language study, with an additional focus on how children acquire language and changes in English over time. The coursework includes exploration of a language topic and the production of a media text.
Course assessment: External exams and coursework
Grade B in English Language is recommended, especially for students who intend to take the subject on to a full A level.
