Health and social CareBTEC Level 2 at Cardinal Newman Catholic School

Course description

In this exciting and challenging one-year course, students look at the rights and needs of clients in health and social care settings. Students will learn about appropriate communication methods and developing and maintaining a safe environment in which to thrive and work. You will also investigate how the body changes with age, how the body’s systems work and how diet can affect a person’s health. You will have the opportunity to experience a work placement in a health and social care setting to integrate your knowledge with real-life experience.

This course is a stepping-stone towards careers in health care, social services and many other public and private services. It also gives you the opportunity to show that you have the skills and commitment necessary to continue onto the BTEC Level 3 ‘Health and Social Care’ qualification the following year, which is the equivalent of at least two A-levels. Students must gain at least a ‘Merit’ grade to proceed.

Entry requirements

A range of GCSEs with someat grades D or E. They shouldalso be able to show they havea commitment to learning andprogressing.
These courses can act as a“stepping stone” onto Level 3,A-levels or career opportunities.
