Environmental Sustainability BTEC Level 3 at Varndean College

Course description

The words ‘environment’ and ‘sustainability’ are used prolifically and widely misunderstood. This course will suit you if you want to understand what lies behind the words and be able to make a knowledgeable contribution to debates about the environment.

This course goes well with geography or science and may also appeal to you if you are taking politics, business or social science or want to improve your understanding of environmental issues.

Course content

You will gain an understanding of the environmental processes that underpin topical issues such as climate change, wildlife conservation and sustainability.  You will understand the principles of sustainable development and develop your practical research skills.

There are a range of careers in the environmental field such as conservation, ecology, weather forecasting, planning or building professions, farming, forestry and horticulture, water management and eco-tourism.

Further information

The course has links with the sciences but the material is accessible to students from the humanities or social sciences too.  Students undertake regular local fieldwork.

The teaching team are actively engaged in conservation work and environmental research.

This Single BTEC Level 3 course is equivalent to 1 A Level.
