Mathematics Higher GCSE (Distance Learning) at National Extension College *Fees Payable*

Course description



Providing you with the same knowledge as the maths foundation course as well as introducing you to more advanced concepts in areas including statistics, indices and vectors, this distance learning programme will enable you to achieve the top grades in your exams, up to A*.  If you want to study maths at advanced level or go on to study a subject related to maths at university, or you are interested in working in a field that uses applications of maths, gaining a strong GCSE in the subject is critical.


You should allow for between 120 and 150 hours' study time, plus additional time for completing assignments. You will have tutor support for a period of up to 18 months from the date of enrolment.

Unit 1: Statistics and number
Unit 2: Number and algebra
Unit 3: Geometry and algebra


Entry requirements

For the higher course you will need to have a good grounding in basic maths.


This course follows specification 4360 from the awarding organisation AQA. Full details of the specification can be obtained from AQA's website.

Three exams: 1hr30m (40% of marks), 1hr15m (33.3% of marks) and 1hr (26.7% of marks)
Fourteen assignments
No coursework
All exams must be taken in the same session

Further information

This course is entirely self-contained so no additional textbooks are required.

The foundation course will help you achieve GCSE marks up to grade C; the higher course from grade D up to grade A*.
