BTEC Diploma in Applied Science at Swakeleys School for Girls

Course description

There will be opportunities for students to attend external lectures, workshops and conferences, vocational activities and venues. There will also be opportunity to carry out extensive practical work and link it to the working/vocational environment.

Course content

Unit 1 – Fundamentals of Science

Unit 2 Working in the Science Industry

Unit 4 – Scientific Practical Techniques

Unit 11 – Physiology of Human Body Systems

Unit 12 – Physiology of Human Regulation and Reproduction

Unit 15– Microbiological Techniques

Entry requirements

All students will need to obtain a Merit grade at BTEC Level 2 in order to continue with this subject at Post 16. This is 100% coursework so no terminal examination however students are required to pass every assignment to the same grading in order to achieve that grade at the end of the course.

Future opportunities

This course will allow progression on to undergraduate degree courses in a science discipline. It will also provide excellent foundations in vocational careers/apprenticeships in a number of professions.
