Applied Travel & Tourism at Ormskirk School

Course description

This is a vocational Travel & Tourism Course and is suitable for students of all ability profiles. Students can choose a single award Applied AS/A2 in Travel and Tourism as a fourth A level subject or sit a Double award Applied AS/A2 in Travel and Tourism which is equivalent to 2 A-levels. 1 or 2 additional A-level subjects can also supplement this. Applied AS/A2 Travel and Tourism examines all aspects of the ever growing Travel and Tourism industry. It combines 2 main subject areas: Business Studies and Geography allowing students to examine the world of Travel and Tourism through the eyes of the businesses that operate within it. Assessment is two thirds coursework, allowing students who struggle with examinations to spend longer working on portfolio work. Examinations will take place in May / June and will be based around a short case study, with short answer questions.The Applied AS/A2 Travel and Tourism can be studied as a single or double award. SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - A minimum of 5 GCSE A*-C passes are required for entry onto the course or grade C or above in Business and Leisure. GCSEs in Business and/or Geography would be beneficial but are not essential.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses to prepare for higher education, BTEC Higher Nationals or NVQ levels 3 or 4 in related areas such as hospitality, leisure management or travel and tourism. It may also be useful to study another language to complement your Travel and Tourism course. With further training, you could go into a job related to the Travel and Tourism such as a Tourism Officer, Travel Agent or more general jobs in the travel and tourism sector either in the UK or abroad. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism industry.
