Mathematics AS/A2 Level at Baysgarth School

Course description

Mathematics plays a key role in virtually all areas of science, industry and commerce. Studies have shown that people with Maths A-Level tend to earn more on average than people without it. Though this itself may not be a good enough reason to study maths, there are plenty of other good reasons! Maths A-Level requires creativity to solve problems.

You will also develop your analysis and logic skills as well as become more confident at working systematically. Add in the improvements to your basic numeracy skills and you've got yourself a set of skills which would make you more desirable for almost any job.

Course content

  • Maths Year 12 – Core 1, Core 2 , Decision 1
  • Maths Year 13 – Core 3, Core 4, Mechanics 1

Entry requirements



Exams at end of each year.

Future opportunities

Apart from academic research, mathematics is vital in careers such as engineering, computer-related industries, and in the City – banking, trading, finance, accountancy and insurance. Other possible careers include medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, meteorology, weather forecasting and teaching. The statistics module also provides a good grounding for careers in physical or social sciences.
