Advanced Professional Cookery BTEC Diploma Level 3 Level 3 at The Manchester College

Course description

This course is for anyone with previous experience of qualifications in the hospitality industry who wants to further their academic training to work effectively as a professional chef. In this course students will enhance their knowledge to an advanced level; learning to plan, prepare, cook and finish dishes, as well as learning advanced cooking and preparation techniques for a variety of ingredients including meat, poultry, fish, seafood and vegetable based dishes.

Entry requirements

Students should have a level 2 qualification in Professional cookery or experience working in the hospitality and catering sector as well as a level 2 qualification in English and Math. Students should have a passion for the hospitality industry.


You’ll be assessed through a variety of practical and written assessments giving you the opportunity to demonstrate the skills you have developed.

Financial information

You’ll be assessed in a number of different ways on this course, focusing on both practical synoptic assessments and graded and non-graded external examinations. You’ll also collate a service portfolio of evidence as you progress on the course.

Further information

Once you’ve completed this Level 3 course you’ll have the opportunity to progress into a career as a chef in the hospitality industry. All these skills will help you to excel in a career in the hospitality and catering industry. You may find yourself working in hotels and restaurants, or even running your own professional kitchen or bakery.

Openshaw Campus is built at the heart of the community with an open plan design and attractive green space and water features. Sportcity and the City of Manchester Stadium are close to the campus. Sportcity has a number of sports venues and fitness and sports facilities for the public. There is a 14-screen cinema five minutes away by car or 25 minutes on foot.
