Music Level 2 Diploma at Somerset College

Course description

The course is designed to increase your knowledge of sound and music as well as practice and perform, either solo or in groups. You will use some of the industry leading tools and software such as Pro Tools HDX, and Digidesign C24 desk (a dedicated control surface for Pro Tools, which includes 16 channel pre-amps).

Course content

You will study units about the following:

  • Setting up computers for music technology
  • Composing music
  • Recording other musicians
  • Rehearsal techniques
  • The music industry

You will also get to work with paying clients, gaining invaluable work experience in a professional setting.

Entry requirements

You don’t have to be a musician to be on this course, though it would help. You do, however, need to have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade E, as well as an audio file of work to bring to your interview.


Throughout the year you will work on various projects with assessment through practical and written work. Teaching is supportive and there is the opportunity to be recorded and aired on local radio.

Future opportunities

You could progress to the Level 3 study programme in Music Performance or Music Production.
