Early Years Childcare and Education Level 3 Certificate or Diploma at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College

Course description

The CACHE Level 3 Certificate/Diploma (Early Years Educator) in Childcare and Education are Level 3 qualifications. They prepare you to work with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the Early Years sector. The qualification will build and develop the necessary practical skills and understanding to provide learners with a firm grounding in the principles of children's care for progression into employment or higher level education.

Course content

All students will be enrolled onto the Certificate in year one, with the opportunity to progress to the Diploma in year 2. There are eight mandatory units in the Certificate which are built upon to complete a total of fifteen mandatory units in the Diploma. Additionally an Effective Practice Study Task (externally set and marked) is required in each year. You will attend a variety of settings arranged by the college to fulfil the 375 hours required placement hours.

Entry requirements

Aged 16+ with a minimum of: Certificate: 5 Grade A*-C passes at GCSE level;(including Maths and English) or a relevant Level 2 qualification and Maths and English grade A*-C at GCSE level. At interview, applicants will need to bring with them evidence of experience with working with children, plus 2 references. All students are required to have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS), this will be arranged by the college following interview.

Assessment

One unit per year is assessed through an externally set and assessed Effective Practice Study Task. The remaining units are assessed through assignment tasks presented in a variety of ways. Each task is designed to assess the required criteria.

Financial information

You will require stationery equipment, uniform, which is to be worn whilst in a practical child care placement, and text books.

We offer a bursary that students can apply for help with costs that are associated with a course. This could be help with the cost of travel, books, materials, equipment, uniforms, childcare and examination and registration fees. Future opportunities

If successful there are a variety of potential careers that you can explore as the qualification enables you to apply for employment in a supervisory capacity, for example as an Early Years Practitioner in a nursery, school setting or hospital. It is also possible for you to progress into careers that require further training as the qualifications hold a maximum of 420 UCAS points. This includes Higher Education further afield or within NWHC e.g. Foundation Degree's in Early Years.

Further information

2 years, full time to complete the full Diploma, early exit after one year would complete the Certificate size only. Excellent attendance is required both in College and in the practical placement. Learners are required to attend all lectures.
