NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations at Appleby Heritage Centre
Whilst in the workshop you will be able to develop your skills as you carry out maintenance around the Centre as well as through working alongside staff on commercial contracts won by the Centre.
Students will complete units in:
Working safely in an engineering environment
Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
Using and communicating technical information
Producing components using hand fitting techniques
Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
There are no formal requirements though completion of the NVQ Level 1 or an interest in mechanical things (bicycles, engines etc) as well as enthusiasm and motivation are advantageous. Previous hand tool experience would also be useful.
To gain the full NVQ you will need to complete all units. Each unit is assessed separately so that unit certificates may be awarded where necessary.
