NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations at Appleby Heritage Centre

Course description

Whilst in the workshop you will be able to develop your skills as you carry out maintenance around the Centre as well as through working alongside staff on commercial contracts won by the Centre.

Course content

Students will complete units in:

Working safely in an engineering environment

Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively

Using and communicating technical information

Producing components using hand fitting techniques

Preparing and using lathes for turning operations

Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment

 

Entry requirements

There are no formal requirements though completion of the NVQ Level 1 or an interest in mechanical things (bicycles, engines etc) as well as enthusiasm and motivation are advantageous. Previous hand tool experience would also be useful.

Assessment

To gain the full NVQ you will need to complete all units. Each unit is assessed separately so that unit certificates may be awarded where necessary.
