ICT A Level *Fees payable* at Thetford Grammar School
ICT gives you fantastic opportunities to work with a variety of technologies and offers you choices such as web design, games design or coding, making it engaging and enjoyable to study.
In today’s world, where ICT is constantly changing, individuals will increasingly need technological and information literacy skills that include the ability to gather, process and manipulate data. These skills are now as essential as the traditional skills of numeracy and literacy.
The qualification has been designed to nurture digital literacy, and provide you with up-to-date skills, knowledge and understanding of the rapidly developing digital world around you.
You will look at what is meant by Information, how it can be used in the context of information systems and the impact of such systems on organisations and society at large. You will learn some of the basic technical means by which information systems are implemented. Alongside this study you will develop your practical skills in applications packages and produce solutions to structured tasks for your coursework.
A2 studies look more fully at the development life cycle of a corporate information system and its wider impact in terms of project management, user training and legal implications. The technical aspects will be covered in more depth. A substantial coursework project, based on a real life problem, will be developed throughout the year. Students are not expected to learn a programming language on this course.
Candidates should have at least a Grade C in GCSE ICT or equivalent qualification.
The AS is made up of two mandatory units, which form 50% of the corresponding four-unit A2. One unit is externally assessed, and one is internally assessed through structured practical tasks. Of the A2 units one is externally assessed, and one is internally assessed through a major project.
