Mathematics AS & A Level at Beauchamps High School

Course description

A Level Maths is a demanding yet satisfying A Level. It requires determination and hard work, independent study and practice is essential. Due to the amount of algebra involved it is vital students enjoy and understand algebra deeply. They must be able to solve equations with ease and also be able to break big problems into smaller more manageable parts.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 or above in GCSE Mathematics.

To be strong in algebra and enjoy manipulating expressions and solving problems.


Students will sit 3 exams at the end of Year 13.

These exams will be 2 hours long and will be equally weighted.

  • Paper 1 will be ‘Pure Maths 1’,
  • Paper 2 will be ‘Pure Maths 2’ and
  • Paper 3 will be ‘Statistics and Mechanics’.

There is no coursework for this course.

Future opportunities

Mathematics is one of the most sought after qualifications for degrees in Sciences and Finance as well as by employers. It shows the ability for logical thinking and problem solving. Mathematics opens the doors to a vast range of careers as the skills are so readily transferable.
