Introduction to the Hair Sector Level 1 Diploma at Lincoln College

Course description

This programme will provide you with a clear understanding of Hairdressing and some Beauty services. You will develop skills required to assist a stylist in Hairdressing within our fully equipped salons. In addition to this you will be given the opportunity to attend training with manufacturers, showcase your skills in local and national competitions and work on a number of paying clients.
Completion from this course may allow you to progress onto the VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing or an Apprenticeship programme. This is dependent on meeting entry criteria for the programmes including; a clear disciplinary record and 95% attendance.
During the course, you will study the following units: Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector; Presenting a Professional Image; Shampoo and Conditioning Hair; Creating an Image Using Colour for the Hair; Hand Care; Styling Women’s Hair; Plaiting and Twisting Hair; Nail Art; Colouring Hair Using Temporary Colour; Creating a Hair and Beauty Image; Health and Safety; Salon Reception and Working with Others in the Hair and Beauty Sector.


Entry requirements

You will be required to pass a skills test as-well as be screened in Maths and English.
You will be required to attend an interview/experience day and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).


Assessment is a combination of practical observation, oral questioning, projects, assignments, written tests and portfolio work.
