Painting and Decorating Level 2 Apprenticeship at Northumberland College

Course description

This course is for anyone who works in the painting and decorating industry who would like to develop their skills and knowledge to become a qualified painter and decorator.

Course content

You will study building methods and construction technology, how to erect and dismantle access and working platforms, surface preparation, application of paint systems by brush and roller, applying papers to walls and ceilings, specialist decorative finishes and how to apply water-borne paint systems using (HVLP) spray equipment. Ideal if you are employed as a painter and decorator and wish to develop your skills and gain a recognised qualification.

Entry requirements

You should have two GCSEs at Grade D or above in English and Maths or a relevant Level 1 qualification and be employed in the industry.


You progress will be assessed by practical assessments both on site and the workshop, multiple choice question papers, a practical skills test and a diploma online test.

Future opportunities

After successfully completing the course you could progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating Level 3.
