French A-Level at Wymondham High School

Course description

FRENCH IS ONE OF THE official languages of the European Union and spoken by 125 million people. It is the language of culture, fashion, cuisine, philosophy and literature. Knowledge of a foreign language will allow you to compete effectively in the global economy, broaden your horizons and increase your appreciation of other cultures. The study of French provides intellectual stimulation and fulfilment together with a platform for further study. French can be studied with most other subjects at university from Business Studies to Politics. At the end of your French course you will be able to speak quite fluently in a foreign language, an invaluable skill to anyone seeking to pursue any career.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a B or higher pass in French at GCSE.

Future opportunities

The study of a language enables students to develop and build on the skills acquired at GCSE, enhances employment prospects, facilitates foreign travel and provides an insight into other cultures. The French course sets its priority on communication. It is designed to extend your skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. We currently run a Study Visit to France in Year 12. The cultural experiences provide a springboard for the written cultural element at A2. In the last two years, three of our AS students have won a competitive scholarship from the British Council to carry out an extensive research project in France.
