Art and Design BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Calderdale College

Course description

This is the course which follows on as the second year to the Art and Design BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma which aims to enhance the knowledge you have gained as part of the 90 Credit Diploma using a wide range of media and techniques. It also helps you prepare for a specialism to help give you the best opportunity to achieve your chosen career.

Course content

This creative programme allows you to develop your skills in a wide range of Art and Design media techniques through a series of core units and projects that are underpinned with contextual references and visual recording. These core elements prepare you to specialise in specific areas that can include:

  • Fashion Design
  • Surface Pattern
  • Textiles for Fashion
  • Textiles for Interiors
  • Print Graphics and Design
  • Illustration Media
  • Games Character Design
  • Fine Arts
  • 3D Crafts

During the course, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience working on out enterprise business and participate in the annual fashion show, work within live briefs, enter competitions and take part in vocational off site trips to exhibits and galleries.

This course will enable you to progress onto the one-year Foundation Art and Design course.

Entry requirements

An advanced course suitable for those with at least five GCSEs at grades A* - C which include GCSE Maths or English. Applicants may also be required to show examples of art work or portfolios at the interview.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous with tutor feedback. At the end of Year 2 learners will have produced a final major project which is externally assessed.

Financial information

This course is free for students aged 16-18. In most cases, students who are aged 18 and under who enrol on a full time course will have their fees waived.

Future opportunities

After this course you will be eligible to progress onto the
Extended Diploma or BTEC Foundation Diploma or into employment as: Fashion Designer, Textile Designer, Illustrator, Printmaker, Interior Designer, Architectural Design
