Mathematical Studies Level 3 at Bury College

Course description

Level 3 Mathematical Studies is one of the new ‘Core Maths’ qualifications. This course has been designed to maintain and develop real life skills. It is a brand new course for those who want to keep up their valuable maths skills, but who are not planning on taking AS or A Level Mathematics. The skills developed in the study of mathematics are increasingly important in the workplace and in higher education and studying Mathematical Studies will help you maintain and improve these essential skills. On average, students who study maths after GCSE improve their career choices and increase their learning prospects. This course is aimed at students with grade 5 or 6 in GCSE Mathematics, if you are expected to achieve a grade 7 or above then you should consider AS/A Level Mathematics.

Entry requirements

College requirements for AS/A Levels are six GCSEs at or above grade C/4 including two subjects or more at or above grade B/5. This includes GCSE Maths grade 9-5 (A*-C). A minimum of 9 grade points are required for Maths and English combined.
