Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Advanced Apprenticeship at Exeter College

Course description

This Apprenticeship programme offers an in-depth, practical approach and a solid platform for anyone seeking technician status. As an Apprentice you will hold a full time job with a motor vehicle workshop and attend college one day per week for the two years of your course.

At college you will learn through lectures and workshops while you spend the remainder of your week at your workplace where you will put your new skills into practice.

Course content

You will cover the following units:

  • Contribute to good housekeeping
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Maintain positive working relationships
  • Carry out routine vehicle maintenance
  • Diagnose complex system faults
  • Inspect vehicles
  • Rectify complex system faults

Entry requirements

You will usually have completed the Level 2 Apprenticeship to progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship.


 You will be assessed by your Training Officer and tutor in a variety of ways, including exams and practical assignments.

Financial information

You will need safety boots, overalls and recommended text books.

Future opportunities

Once you have completed your Advanced Apprenticeship programme you should be looking to progress to a Level 4 training programme.
