History A Level at Park High School

Course description

History is an incredibly useful and versatile subject. It trains the student how to write in an academic manner, notably with the coursework (which only English and History have been allowed to keep). It is extremely academically rigorous and requires that students are well-read and capable of developing a clear argument. The academic rigour of History thus yields benefits across all subjects. These skills are invaluable at university level as it means students already have extensive training in academic research and writing.

Entry requirements

GCSE grades (minimum) required to enrol on this course:

Grade 6 or above at GCSE Grade 5 in English Language Grade 4 in Mathematics


Unit 1 - 1hr 30 min exam - 25% weighting

Unit 2 - 1 hr exam - 15% weighting

Unit 3 - 2 hr 30 min exam - 40% weighting

Unit 4 - 4,000 word coursework essay - 20% weighting 

Future opportunities

There are of course many career paths that an A-level in History can lead to. The obvious route through History and Politics; as well as it being highly regarded in the Law community. Furthermore, the level of discussion and debate make it an ideal grounding for all sorts of subjects, from drama and art all the way to many sciences.
