Media Studies AS/A2 Level at Gillingham School

Course description

In the AS year students take two modules. The first, Foundation Portfolio in Media, includes a shorter and longer practical task in either print or film, as well as a research, planning and evaluative portfolio. This module is assessed through coursework.

The second module, Key Media Concepts, requires the study of representation in television drama, and the study of a media industry. This module is assessed through a written exam.

In the A2 year students take two further modules. The Advanced Portfolio in Media, assessed through coursework, requires the students to work in a range of media to construct a series of linked media texts.

Critical Perspectives in Media is a written exam which firstly involves the students reflecting and evaluating their practical work over the two years focusing on one key media concept. Secondly, the students will study one contemporary issue that they will examine through looking at a range of different media.
