Course description

What will I learn on this course?

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is an intensive and exciting 2 year course, delivered by highly qualified teaching staff who cover different aspects of the Performing Arts Dance programme.

The focus of the curriculum is practical based enabling all students to develop their personal potential, technical dance abilities, performance skills, combined with choreographic work and dance analysis, to support students who may wish to join the ever evolving dance industry. This is a specialist programme and is aimed at students who already have a passion for and experience of dance. Students should have a reasonable level of fitness, creativity, commitment and motivation.

How will I study? 

You will receive training in the following:

  • Contemporary dance technique
  • Classical Ballet technique
  • Performance Workshop
  • Dance Improvisation
  • Choreography
  • Jazz dance technique

You will take part in lots of exciting performances over the 2 years, including major productions, touring performances and a range of smaller performances and workshops. In addition you will also study the Performing Arts Business, the Historical Context of Performance, Tap and Urban dance, alongside a variety of other units.

How will I be assessed?

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance consists of 18 specific skill units over 2 years, which are individually assessed with Pass, Merit or Distinction grades. Students will have one opportunity to complete each unit and this is their final grade towards the qualification.

Further Learning & Career Options

Students’ experiences at BOA will enable progress to vocational dance training or Degree Courses in Dance, Community Dance, Dance Therapy, or Dance Science. The dance course at BOA enables students to work in areas such as arts administration and management, performance, choreography, community and education.

Entry requirements

Admission to BOA is via an aptitude workshop within a specialist pathway. No prior experience is required.

We are unable to take students who will have reached the age of 20 before completion of the course.
