BTEC Level 3 Applied Certificate (Year 1)/Subsidiary Diploma (Year 2) in Information Technology (Previously BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate) at Selby College

Course description

This is a specialist applied programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills you will require as an Advanced Information Communication Technology Practitioner to work or progress in the Information Communication Technology and or Business sectors.

It covers a range of exciting IT related skills including hardware, software, creative, business and with a strong emphasis on 'hands on' state of the art activities. 

Course content

You will study three units per year. The first year leads to the Certificate which is AS level equivalent and year two to the Subsidiary Diploma which is equivalent to 1 A Level. Units include: 

  • Computer systems
  • Website Production 
  • Digital graphics and 3D modelling
  • Spreadsheet Modelling 
  • Databases 
  • Communication and Employability skills for IT and Business

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 5 (B) (two of which must be in Academic Subjects) or above, including English and Maths.

Assessment

100% Coursework.

Future opportunities

On successful completion, this will equip you for a range of university courses including the HNC/D in Computing and Systems Development at Selby College, an Apprenticeship, or employment.

 

Further information

This course is only available to those students who have elected to study either A Levels, or other Applied subjects. It is not a full-time course.
