Business BTEC Level 3 at Buxton Community School

Course description

BTEC Level 3 is equivalent to 1 A level and is coursework based. 

The topics studied are very similar to A Level and will require the student to demonstrate detailed understanding through the completion of 6 assignments over 2 years. Topics covered are:

  • The business environment
  • Business resources
  • Introduction to marketing
  • Starting a small business
  • Accounting
  • Health and safety

The BTEC is more vocational and requires a higher level of independent work to complete the assignments.

Entry requirements

Entry into our 6th Form is based upon gaining a minimum of 5 A* - C at GCSE including at least a grade C in English and/or maths. BTEC courses will be taken into account in support of the 5 A*-C at GCSE. The minimum average points score for all subjects for entry into the 6th Form is 39.


BTEC level 3 is all coursework and will be assessed through the completion of portfolio work and presentations in class.
