Child Development Level 2 Diploma at Queen Katharine Academy

Course description

Pupils study 5 units of work and complete 240 hours of work related learning.
BTEC Nationals are qualifications that are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare them for employment. On successful completion of a BTEC National qualification, learners can progress into or within employment and/or continue their study in the same vocational area.

Course content

You will be learning about the expected physical, emotional, intellectual, social and communication development of children in the 0-8 age range. You will learn current best practice while on work experience placement which will allow you to link classroom theory with current practice.

Entry requirements

Anyone who wants to work with children in a vast array of contexts in the 0-8 years age range. You will need 5 GCSE grades A*-E.


2 examined units and 4 coursework assessed units

Future opportunities

This course allows you to work as a nursery practitioner in a supervised capacity. You could work as a nursery assistant; you can undertake apprenticeships or progress to the level 3 courses which confer occupational competence.
