Textiles (Art) at Queen Katharine Academy

Course description

This four-unit specification, two at AS and two at A2, requires students to develop their ability to show a range of skills, including independence, enthusiasm for art, working and experimenting with media and an awareness of different roles/functions/audiences/consumers of art

Course content

This four-unit specification, two at AS and two at A2, requires students to develop their ability to show a range of skills, including independence, enthusiasm for art, working and experimenting with media and an awareness of different roles/functions/audiences/consumers of art. Textiles skills will be developed alongside art and design skills.

Entry requirements

Students need to have achieved at least 5A*-C. If they have studies Art or Textiles a grade C or above will normally be required.

Assessment

The course is assessed through regular tutorials and an assessment by the teacher for the coursework part, which is then put through an external moderation process. At AS this is combined with a 10 hour exam-assessment that is pre-prepared. At A2 the exam lasts for 15 hours and the coursework project involves an additional essay between 1000-3000 words. The course is graded A to E at AS, then A*to E at A2.

Future opportunities

Students go on to a wide variety of university courses and/or employment. Students can apply for any degree course from a Textile, Art, Fashion or DT background.
