English Literature Level 3 at Hilbre High Humanities College

Course description

The AS course offers three options and those offered at Hilbre or Pensby include the Literature of the First World War, The Struggle for Identity in Modern Literature, or Victorian Literature. Six texts are studied altogether, two for coursework (40% of the total AS marks) and four for the examination. The examination consists of an extract for close reading and commentary plus three of your texts linked to this as wider reading plus a question on a set poetry text. Coursework consists of two essays totalling approximately 2,500 words. The A2 course, to complete the full A Level, again has coursework worth 40% and a two and a half hour examination where you will compare poems and short extracts of prose and drama on the theme of Love Through the Ages, as well as linking these to wider reading on this theme. For coursework you will write about a Shakespeare play and then link this to two other texts on a related theme; one extended essay of approximately 3000 words is required.
