Business - Level 3 Diploma (Full-Time) at Newcastle College

Course description

This qualification is ideal for those that want to work in a Business environment whether it is working in a large corporate company or a small independent Business.

Every type of business environment requires the ability to be organised, use office equipment, work with others, deal with customers, answer the telephone, write letters or complete any other document required by a business and much more!

This course is ideal to gain the practical skills and knowledge to enter into the world of work and equip you for the challenges ahead.

Upon completion of the units you will receive a  Level 3  Subsidiary Diploma awarded by Pearson (Edexcel) who is a nationally recognised awarding body.

Course content

The course is delivered by staff who are highly experienced in the Business sector and will provide you with the knowledge and understanding to enter into the world of work and equip you for the challenges ahead.

People who work in the Business sector need a range of practical and academic skills. We will assist you to develop these skills and knowledge so that you can progress to the career of your choice in the future.

You will learn about:

  • Working in a shop
  • Stock control
  • Fashion retailing
  • Food retailing
  • Human resources
  • Leadership and management

You will develop skills in:

  • Stock taking
  • Advertising for staff
  • Hiring staff
  • Employment law
  • Customer service
  • Finances
  • Marketing and how to work with others
  • Using the internet
  • Managing people.

You will practice these skills through a variety of "hands on" tasks such as running a Christmas market, marketing a promotional event and setting up mobile shops. We have 2 new purpose built retail units and you will be expected to contribute to the running of these.

You will also have the opportunity to develop skills within the community through fund raising events and volunteering opportunities.

Maths and English form part of every programme of study for students who have yet to secure a GCSE grade C or above, in these subjects.

This will enhance job and career opportunities, and where appropriate, progression to higher education. Students who undertake GCSE English or Maths will be required to purchase a revision guide and workbook (£5.00), and those undertaking Maths will also be required to purchase a scientific calculator (about £7.00).

These can be purchased from the college or from any good stationers.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSE’s at Grade C or above, including English or Maths or Level 2 at Merit level including English or Maths GCSE at Grade C or above.

If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS score of 5.0 or above.

Assessment

You will be assessed through written work, observations and simulated tasks within class as well as the projects you participate in outside of the classroom environment.

There are no examinations.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Business or employment within a shop, an office or another Business environment.

 

You can apply to work within any Business sector such as office work, shop work, secretarial work, personal assistant or administration within environments such as hotels, banks, hospitals.
