To study Sociology you should have an interest in people and their behaviours. You should have a curiosity about social and cultural issues and have an open and critical mind.

Course content

What will I study during the AS course & how will it be assessed?

Unit 1: Families and Households (Examination)

Sociology theories/perspectives and methods, including research, design and the relative strengths and weaknesses of each type.Core themes are: Socialisation, culture and identity, Social differentiation, power and stratification40% of AS, 20% of A Level

Unit 2: Education with Research Methods (Examination)

Core themes are: Education and Sociological methods.60% of AS, 30% of A Level

What will I study during the A2 course & how will it be assessed?

Unit 3: Mass Media (Examination)

Core themes are: Nature of sociological thought and methods of sociological enquiry, Media Sociology, Synoptic elements of a critical awareness of contemporary social process and change20% of A Level

Unit 4: Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods (Examination)

Crime and Deviance with Theory and MethodsCore themes are; Synoptic elementsCrime and Deviance30% of A Level
