Course description

If you enjoyed chemistry at GCSE, you’ll love this course. You’ll get a real in-depth knowledge of this fascinating subject, preparing you for further education or giving you the credentials to enhance your job options straight away. Chemists have greatly improved the quality of life for the majority of people. Our A Level course is underpinned by the practical skills that we call ‘How Science Works.’ You also find out how chemists are real innovators, designing solutions to the problems that affect modern life. A Level candidates are given a solid grounding in chemistry. The specification introduces the chemical reactivity of atoms and molecules and provides an understanding of their structures. The development and use of the periodic table is explained. At AS Level candidates are given a solid grounding in foundation chemistry. The specification introduces the chemical reactivity of atoms and molecules and provides an understanding of their structures.

INCLUDING at least a grade B in science AND grade C in English & Mathematics

Assessment

AS level

2 papers each of 90 mins

Paper 1 – physical and inorganic

Paper 2 – physical and organic

Each are worth 50% of final mark

A level

3 papers each of 2 hours

Paper 1 – physical and inorganic (35% of final mark)

Paper 2 – physical and organic (35% of final mark)

Paper 3 – any content (30% of final mark)
