A Level English Language at St Peter's Catholic School

Course description

A Level English Language is fascinating, covering both the theoretical aspects of language and practical language use. It is accepted by universities in its own right as a subject for further study or by both Science and Arts faculties as an additional A Level.

It is a fascinating subject as it encompasses the study of a wide range of texts, both spoken and written. It also gives students the chance to produce texts for real life situations and see their work in production from the earliest drafts to the final publication. Any career which involves communicating will be enhanced by the study of A Level English Language.

Entry requirements

A ‘B’ Grade pass at English GCSE is recommended. The most important skill is the ability to write accurately and coherently. It is also important to be able to read texts closely and to use a variety of new terms and expressions in describing the ways writers and speakers are using language.
