Sport BTEC Nationals Level 3 Extended Certificate at Cranford Community College

Course description

Units of Study:

  • Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology (Externally assessed)
  • Unit 2 Fitness, training and programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (Externally assessed)
  • Unit 3 Professional Development in the Sports Industry

There are also a range of additional optional units which will be chosen depending on the students within the cohort. Options include, Sports Psychology, Practical Sports performance and Sports Leadership.

Normally D in English.


In the new BTEC programme there are now 2 units which are externally assessed via written examinations. All others are assessed internally. All assessment for BTEC Nationals is criterion referenced, based on the achievement of specified learning outcomes. Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment and grading criteria which are to be used for grading purposes. A summative unit grade can be awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Future opportunities

The BTEC Nationals in Sport have been developed in the sport and active leisure sector to: Provide education and training for sport, leisure and recreation employees. Give opportunities for sport, leisure and recreation employees to achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 vocationally specific qualification. Give full-time learners the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Sport or related areas. Give learners the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
