Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship Level 3 at West Lancashire College

Course description

Gain a nationally recognised qualification for the work that you do. You will cover the underpinning knowledge required and provide evidence of your competence from your work-based activities.

People with practical abilities interested in developing skills and techniques within motor trade and who already have a level 2 motor vehicle qualification. Candidates will be able to work quickly and carefully, have good hand-eye co-ordination whilst being aware of the physical demands of the job.

Course content

Units include -

  • Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Automotive Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults
  • Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Engine Faults
  • Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Chassis System
  • Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Faults

Entry requirements

Candidates must be working for a minimum of 16 hours per week in the industry, have the support of the employer and be capable of achieving Functional Skills at the required level.

Assessment

This is delivered through day release at the West Lancashire Construction Academy.

Functional Skills include -

  • Communication
  • Application of Number
  • Information Technology

Assessment and delivery will be undertaken in the workplace, tailored to the needs of both the employer and the learner including practical demonstrations of competence to build a portfolio of evidence. There are also written assessments throughout and a number of on line tests.

Future opportunities

Candidates can progress onto a level 4 qualification or progress into the work place.
