Course description

 

Business is a dynamic subject. You will learn about the diverse nature of business enterprise and the interdependence of the various parts of the business world. You will explore business success and failure, investigate local, national and global business markets, and understand how businesses need to adapt and respond strategically to the changing environment in which they operate to survive and grow. This constant evolutionary process makes business a fascinating subject

 

Course content

The syllabus is split into four theme areas and includes a pre-released research task. In theme area 1 and theme area 2 you will learn about how businesses work. You will be introduced to the marketing and people functions before investigating entrepreneurs and business start-ups. You will also explore how business finance and operations work, and understand the impact of external influences. Theme area 3 and theme area 4 move from functions to strategy. You will explore influences on business strategy and decision-making, and understand how businesses mitigate risk and uncertainty. You will also explore global business and the opportunities and issues facing businesses in today‚Äôs global world. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at grade A*- C including Mathematics and English Language.

Assessment

The A-level is formally assessed by three 2 hour exams at the end of the second year. Paper 1 covers themes 1 & 4, paper 2 covers themes 2 & 3 and paper 3 is an unseen exam. You will be assessed at the end of year one to see if you can progress to year two.

Future opportunities

An A-level in Business can lead to any university course but particularly
lends itself to business, accountancy and economics related degree
subjects. With the background of how a business operates, this A-level
will make you very employable.

Further information

A-level Business is taught within our specialised A-level classrooms which
creates a dynamic learning environment for our highly motivated
and dedicated A-level students. With lots of business related materials and
news stories adorning the walls, this is a great environment in which to
study.
 
Students are expected to buy the set textbook (one for each year) and will
need a lever-arch file with dividers, pen, pencil, rubber, ruler, highlighter
pen and calculator for all lessons.
 
A-level Business is a 2 year linear A level course where you will be
examined on the whole syllabus in 3 exams at the end of the 2nd year.
