Performing Arts (Dance) BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate at Strode's College

Course description

This course provides a specialist work-related qualification for the dance industry. The course provides knowledge, understanding and vocational skills that are needed to prepare a dancer for employment or further training within the performing arts. This is a fully practical course with a requirement to log every lesson in detail to supplement your coursework. It is basic dance training; looking at key choreographers in ballet, contemporary and jazz. You will showcase your work in a final performance in a theatre in your 1st and 2nd year.

Course content

This is an ideal course to gain practical experience of dance techniques (Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Commercial, Contemporary and Contact Improvisation). You will develop performance, composition and appreciation skills in Dance, relatable and relevant to the Performing Arts Industry today whilst studying a range of current and seminal professional works from a variety of Dance styles and perform within live productions in a range of venues.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements for a Level 3 Pathway. Including a C in Maths or English GCSE plus C in Dance GCSE if taken or proven dance experience.

Assessment

100% internally-assessed coursework, including practical performance assessment.

Financial information

College Drama Production, Strides Dance Company, Musical Theatre Group and National Connections Production. Visits are organised to Theatres including local venues and the West End

 

Future opportunities

Students can progress to a variety of careers and training including performance, teaching, physiotherapy and choreography. Many of our students have also gone on to study at specialist dance colleges and conservations.
