Mathematics (Further Mathematics) A Level at The Belvedere Academy 6th Form

Course description

Year 12
Further Pure 1: Complex numbers; Numerical Solutions of Equations; Coordinate Systems; Matrix Algebra; Series and Proof by Induction.

Mechanics 1: Kinematics in 1D; Dynamics; Statics; Moments and Vectors.

Decision 1: Algorithms; Graphs and networks; Algorithms on networks; Route Inspection; Critical Path Analysis; Linear Programming and Matchings

Year 13

Further Pure 2: Inequalities; Series; Further Complex Numbers; First and Second Order Differential Equations; Maclaurin and Taylor Serie and Polar Coordinates

Mechanics 2: Kinematics in 20; Centres of Mass; Work; Energy and Power; Collisions and Statics of Rigid Bodies; Students also choose either Statistics 3 or Further Pure 3.

Statistics 3: Combinations of Random Variables; Estimation; Confidence Intervals and Tests; Goodness of Fit and Contingency Tables; Regression and Correlation

Further Pure 3: Hyperbolic Functions; Further Coordinate Systems; Differentiation; Integration; Vectors and Further Matrix Algebra. 



Entry requirements

Linear GCSE Grade A or above

Linked Pair GCSE At least a Grade A in both Applications and Methods



Grades are 100% examination based; there is no coursework element.

Year 12: Three 90 minute examinations: Further Pure 1, Mechanics 1 and Decision 1

Year 13: Three 90 minute examinations: Further Pure 2, Mechanics 2, either Statistics 3 or Further Pure 3
