City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy at Wakefield Adult and Community Education Services

Course description

To provide learners with the practical skills, knowledge and understanding to carry out specialised beauty therapy treatments.

You will be taught by a variety of classroom activities such as practical demonstrations, hand-outs, group work, tutorials and study packs.

To achieve the required standard in practical sessions and underpinning knowledge.

To submit a portfolio of evidence.

Course content

You will complete a range of units covering the following:

  • Health and safety procedures
  • Promote additional services or products to clients
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Provide facial skin care treatment
  • Enhance appearance of eyebrows and lashes
  • Waxing techniques
  • Provide manicure treatments
  • Provide pedicure treatments
  • Provide make-up techniques
  • Provide salon reception duties

Entry requirements

Learners who are new to the beauty industry as well as those who have experience and want to develop their skills. Although no prior knowledge is required an introductory course at level 1 will enable you to understand the work more easily.

You should have enthusiasm for the subject and a commitment to training and personal development.



Students are assessed whilst working on paying clients in a realistic, salon environment.  All practical achievements are recorded in candidate log books.  Theory work covers working practices and procedures, anatomy and physiology.  There are a number of written test papers to be completed as part of the course.

Financial information

Course fee is £370 although you may be entitled to either a free course or support with your fees and other costs. Please ask at your centre.It is recommended that you practice your skills at home.

For this you will need to purchase some additional resources. Candidates will be required to purchase a Beauty Therapy Uniform and plain black shoes.

Information will be given to candidates during induction in the first session - 2 folders (lever arch files), pens, paper, plastic wallets, coloured dividers, student kit required.

16-18s can apply for a bursary at enrolment(if eligible).

Future opportunities

Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy massage or electrical route or Level 3 Nail Services, Level 2 in Nail Technology or a variety of complementary therapy courses.

Further information

As part of the awarding body’s quality assurance processes you may be required to attend on a different day or centre than your normal lesson.  This would happen a maximum of twice per year when the external verifier visits and you will be given approximately 2 weeks notice.
