The course is designed for those who want to expand their practical skills in Digital Media Production, this includes TV/Short film production, marketing/advertising, radio production, product design, digital graphics, comic books/magazines, journalism and social media.

In Year 1 of the Extended Diploma you will create a visual and special effects sequence, a graphic novel / comic book, a digital animation, you will work for a client in the creation of a short TV product and interactive product, you will study media products and audiences and learn how to plan professional productions.

In Year 2 of the Extended Diploma you will create a full short film/TV Drama, a radio production, an audio/visual promo, a special sound sequence you will study social media, converging technologies and conduct research for the development of a product and finally there is a whole unit dedicated to getting you a job in the industry - you’ll create an online presence, CV, learn how to get that vital interview and succeed!

Assessment

The Extended Diploma is 80% practical coursework and 20% exam split across 4 exam topics (2 per year) and 12 coursework units.

The Foundation Diploma is 80% practical coursework and 20% exam split across 2 exam topics (both sat in Year 1) and 6 coursework units.

Future opportunities

With the Extended Diploma it is not that uncommon for people who want to work in the media to move straight into employment at junior level with this industry recognised qualification. It could easily lead to a meaningful full time job or a place at the prestigious media universities such as Ravensbourne or Bournemouth.

The foundation diploma would be an excellent compliment to a set of other vocational qualifications or A Levels. It will help you develop your production and creative skills for employers in nearly every type of business.
