Course description

Considering a career in biomedical pharmacology or forensics? This vocational course allows you to tailor your education to your chosen career. You Study in our university standard Science Centre and complete an exciting range of practical experiments. The technical skills and knowledge you will gain can be applied to a wide range of careers within the science sector and can lead to a number of higher education routes.

Four GCSEs grade A-C, preferably including Maths and English. This is a guideline rather than a requirement and the college will create a programme most suitable for you as an individual.

Future opportunities

A BTEC develops learners’ skills and understanding of work within a vocational context and offers direct progression on to BTEC Higher National programmes, Foundation Degree Programmes and First Degree Programmes. BTEC Nationals are recognised by higher education institutions and attract UCAS points.

If your plan is to go straight into employment, you could work in a research laboratory, a quality control laboratory, a hospital laboratory, a materials testing laboratory, a forensic science laboratory, a laboratory within an educational establishment or an environmental science laboratory.

    • The City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, in the centre of the City and the North Staffordshire conurbation, is an ideal place to study.       LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRES

      Designed to meet the needs of a modern day students, our learning resource centres give you reliable access to computers and printers. Located next to the teaching staff base, the LRC are the perfect place to complete your work. The ground floor LRC is open until late throughout the week ensuring you meet deadlines.

      QUIET STUDY AREA

      Do you need peace and quiet to complete your work? Then the quiet study area is ideal. With plenty of desks and access to computers there’s no better place to focus on your studies.

      LEARNING PODS

      The most unique feature in our building is the three learning pods. These are individual break-out spaces from the LRC, available for use by all students. Work alongside your peers or carry out research with access to new technology such as tablets, Macs and high speed wireless internet connection. Each Learning Pod has its own identity.
