Further Mathematics at The Castle School

Course description

This course is intended to satisfy the needs of keen Mathematicians and provide a course which challenges and stimulates students as they gain a deeper and broader knowledge of Mathematics. It is ideal for anyone who particularly wishes to study Mathematics, Physics and/or Engineering-related courses at university.

Students selecting Further Mathematics will automatically also be entered to study Mathematics and therefore need only to select Further Mathematics as an option. Together they will count as 2 A Levels.

Choosing this option means that students will complete Maths A Level (AS and A2 sections) during Year 12 and then Further Maths in Year 13.

The demands are the same as for A level Maths, except that this is an accelerated course. Students will complete the six A level Mathematics modules in Year 12 at an accelerated pace. They can then decide to continue into Year 13 where they will complete six modules for the Further Maths A level or just three modules for the AS qualification.

Entry requirements

Minimum grade A in Higher Level Mathematics GCSE. Additional Maths at GCSE will be an advantage.
