English Language and Literature at English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College

Course description

At AS level the following units are covered: - ELLB1: Introduction to Language and
Literature Study - You will study different
texts from a prescribed Anthology and you
will look at them in relation to literary and
linguistic features.
- ELLB2: Themes in Language and Literature
- The aim here is to give you the
opportunity to study major prose genres,
including fiction and literary non-fiction.
At A2 level the following units are covered: - ELLB3: Talk in Life and Literature - In this
unit the emphasis is on spoken language.
The aim of this unit is to allow you the
opportunity to identify and discuss the
way meanings are constructed.
- ELLB4: Text Transformation - In this unit
you will study two literary texts from a
range of works and transform them into
different genres.

Entry requirements

In order to be considered for this course you must have a good grade B at GCSE level in both English and English Literature.
