Body Repair & Refinishing Level 3 Apprenticeship at Somerset College

Course description

Working within a Body Repair workplace you will learn the practical skills involved whilst also undertaking the following core units.

Course content

Level 3 core units include:

  • Remove and replace structural body panels
  • Repair structural body panels
  • Rectify vehicle misalignment
  • Refinish vehicles

The individual Technical Certificate and NVQ may also be studied independently.

Entry requirements

  • College entrants will be 16 years of age or over 
  • Four GCSEs at grade E or above 
  • College interview and initial assessment.


The course is assessed through a combination of online assessments, college-based assignments and short-answer tests. Demonstration of practical competence in a variety of relevant tasks will also be required.

Future opportunities

You could progress on to our Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3), Foundation Degree Engineering (Automotive Engineering) or HNC Engineering (Automotive Management and Technology).

Alternatively, you could continue employment as a motor vehicle body repairer and/or vehicle refinishing technician or move to a trainee service receptionist/engineer in vehicle body specialisms or trainee vehicle body accident repair insurance estimator.
