Chemistry AS/A-Level at The Appleton School

Course description

Studying the principles of physical, inorganic and organic Chemistry and exploring these through experimental work, which will allow you to access chemistry in the real world.

Course content

AS course content

During the course students will look at the relationship between atomic structure, chemical reactivity and patterns in the Periodic Table. This leads on to an introduction to organic chemistry, where we look at alkane, alkenes and other families and their effect on the environment including pollution and global warming, and the social and economic aspects of transition metals extraction.

A2 course content

The A2 course provides an opportunity for practical investigations to explore thermodynamics, equilibria and kinetics in more detail. Then explore transition metals, organic chemistry and their applications in industry and medicine. The course is presented clearly to ensure that the subject content is relevant to real world experiences. It will inspire students and lay the ground work for further studies at university.

AS 100% Examination on 2 papers.

A Level 100% examination on 3 papers.

If you sit the AS exams they don’t count towards the A-level marks.
