A Level in Psychology at Shrewsbury College

Course description

There are several areas of psychology that we will be investigating. These include answering questions such as - why do we remember and forget (cognitive psychology). Why do people obey and conform when they know they are wrong (social psychology)? How can stress be explained and managed (biological psychology)? What is normal and what is abnormal (psychopathology)? What are the best ways of researching (research methods)? Why do people commit crimes? Is behaviour learnt or is it in-born? Why do people suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder (psychopathology)?Delivery will be through taught lessons which will be conducted in a variety of ways, and will involve non-assessed planning and running of experiments to support learning. Where possible, visits will be incorporated.

Assessment

Assessment for the course is through external exams. You will be supported for this and we will also have a series of mock exams designed to develop your exam technique and knowledge. Psychology is a subject where you will develop many techniques throughout the course that will benefit your study skills and ability to remember.
