Music Technology, Edexcel at Penistone Grammar Advanced Learning Centre
Students will be expected to spend a considerable amount of time, outside of lessons working in the studio, experimenting with sound recording techniques and developing a critical ear. To fulfil your potential at A-Level Music Technology, it is essential that you are regularly involved within the school’s extra-curricular activities
To secure a place at our Post 16 Centre five passes or more GCSE passes at grade C or above and a minimum of a C grade in both English Language and Mathematics. All students will also need a B Grade GCSE in any subject they are wanting to study at A Level. If it is a new subject for example Sociology or Psychology students must have achieved a grade B in both Mathematics and English Language.
Both AS and A2 consist of 2 units of work. The first of each being a substantial portfolio of composition, sequencing and recording tasks (60 hours controlled conditions); the second a listening and producing examination in June.
All work is externally assessed.
You could take this course with a combination of other A level studies which could lead to higher education. With further study you could go into a career within the music business such as sound engineer, composer or radio production.
