BTEC National Award – Applied Medical Science at King Alfred's Academy

Course description

A Two-year course in King Alfred's Sixth Form that leads to either a BTEC level 3 Subsidiary Diploma which is equivalent to one A level or a BTEC level 3 Diploma which is equivalent to two A levels. This qualification will be awarded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

This exciting new course is aimed at those students who have an interest in the human body, medicine, human biology, human health and developments in medical techniques. It is also of interest for students interested in health and fitness, any aspect of nursing, occupational therapy, veterinary nursing, dental technician, radiotherapy, science laboratory technician and other medical related careers such as food and nutrition or health and beauty.

Although human physiology and health will be a significant part of your studies particularly in the second year, the course includes a foundation in chemistry, physics, working in the Science industry and considers the moral and social aspects of medical science too.

Entry requirements

Typically students need at the very least 5 or more GCSE’s at grade C or above to be successful on an Advanced Course. There are more than 30 subjects to choose from though some may require more than a C grade.
